Mickey Jones

Mickey Jones has had a career in Federal acquisitions as both a Federal employee and as a consultant spanning over 38 years. He served 31 years in federal service as a former Operational Contracting Officer and Senior Acquisition Executive. Mickey had leadership roles in acquisitions at the departments of Interior, Treasury and Homeland Security.

Mickey’s last position with the Federal government was with DHS as the Director of the Office of Procurement Operations. He was the architect for this large acquisition office which supports the Secretary’s Office and several components including the Undersecretary for Management and Assistant Secretary for S&T and Assistant Secretary for NPPD. Mickey was responsible for the establishment of many of the initial DHS department-wide contract support vehicles allowing the agency to fulfill its mission. He led the solicitation, negotiation and award of the US VISIT support contract and a $100M R&D contract to study installing counter-terrorism devices on commercial aircraft. Mickey also participated in the planning and acquisition strategies for the DHS EAGLE I and FirstSource contracts.

At the Department of the Treasury, Mickey was a manager and leader for several large acquisition initiatives. He designed and implemented the organization for centralizing 200 buying units into 4 regions at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Mickey was the leader at IRS for implementing many efficient acquisition strategies along with implementing electronic solicitation and proposals. While the Chief of Procurement at the Office of Thrift Supervision, he developed a program to award contracts for international recovery of mis-appropriated banking funds.

Upon his federal retirement, Mickey worked at Booz Allen Hamilton providing expert advice and support to a host of federal agency clients including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the National Protection and Programs Directorate, Science & Technology Directorate, the Chief Information Officer for DHS and US Citizenship and Immigration Services in DHS, the Environmental Protection Agency, US Department of Agriculture and Department of Justice. Most recently, Mickey served as Senior Vice President for Acquisition Strategy at Evermay Consulting Group, applying his acquisition advisory expertise and federal procurement relationships to help government contractors effectively and efficiently deliver their solutions to DHS, IRS, and other Federal agencies via the government procurement process.

During his career Mickey was recognized for his outstanding commitment and contribution to mission support through acquisitions. His career accomplishments and awards include:

  • An IRS Commissioner’s Award and four Assistant Commissioner’s awards

  • Contracting Officer of the Year at the Department of the Interior
